[RC] Juniors - our future - Steph Teeter

Here's a little more info on the Junior and Young Rider divisions in FEI -
Juniors are classified as age 14 - 18 (riders MAY compete in the Junior
divisions if they are in this age group)

Young Riders are 16 - 21 (riders MAY compete in the YR division if they are
in this age group)

I don't know about sponsorship rules for Juniors in other countries, but
USEF mirrors AERC rules regarding Juniors: under 16 must be sponsored unless
a special waiver is granted.

The Junior and Young Rider competitions that I've seen (Brazil, Argentina)
were run concurrently with the Open divisions but had special award
recognition - which is also what most of our rides do, except that we don't
have a Young Rider division (ages 16-21).

Regarding sponsorship of Juniors, I'm not suggesting any changes, AERC/USEF
rules are adequate (imo).

Regarding a Young Rider division - I think this is a very interesting
concept. I might look into this for our May FEI ride. We have a lot of
talented young riders (age 16-21) who are riding in the senior division
(16 - 99) and giving these riders a division of their own to compete in
might be of interest to them. Plus it looks like Young Riders championships
are gaining popularity at the world level.
