There's another reason I don't ride them. >g< Actually, the best advice
I can give you to avoid soreness is get tack that alligns your body
correctly. If you have to lean forward to get over your feet, your back
will be sore. If you have a helmet that's too big or has a long visor
that has you tipping your head way back to see (especially going up
hills) your neck will be sore. If you don't adjust your stirrups right
and you're tiptoeing your calves will be sore. If you don't try to find a
way to avoid buckles that rub on pleasure rides, you can bet you'll be
sore. Once I got all my tack problems ironed out, pain was not a big
issue any more. Then, you can start focusing on relaxing on the trail.
If my horse will hit a rhythm, I can post forever without soreness. MUCH
more enjoyable than a slow trail ride which *will* make me sore.

Don't just make yourself deal with pain that can be avoided. There's
enough pain that can't be avoided to fill your quota.

Angie
