RE: [RC] First 25 mile ride - Christina McCarthy

IMHO (and there will be many HO given :) I started slowly, did a CTR 30...felt like I was gonna die, my horse did fine (I conditioned him, not myself) I hartilly agree with Truman about Hunter Paces...it taught him to be around other equines in a FUN atmosphere..He enjoys it, I love it! We have also Fox Hunted (Newcomers day was a bit stressful), however the next weekend which was opening day, JJ did just fine and handled the various terrane (we actually jumped...), hounds, etc very well.  I also suggest poker rides, or area specific fun rides...Then we did another CTR 25 and I loved it.  I was prepared physically and mentally and so was my horse.  What a difference from the first one!  I think we are ready for an endurance ride now.  I think CTR's are excellent in teaching the rider how to moniter their horse.  All I do is smile...it was that enjoyable and my horse was relaxed and attentive to me.
