[RC] The quest for the turtle award - how close to cut it... - Kristi Schaaf

If you want to win Turtle Awards here in the Ozarks,
you are going to have to slooooowww way down from a

will get you into the top 5 finishers.

He he he, TOO funny of a post Paul!!!

Seriously, I guess my original question stemmed from
the fact that my retired horse and his 9-10 mph trot
still only got us a 4 or 5 hour LD (ok, I suppose the
nap and grazing time messsed it up a bit). Anyway, I'm
not talking averaging 7 or 7.5 mph. Say we trot our
happy little 7 mph trot 2/3 of a 50 (which at this
point in my life seems like A LOT of trotting), and
walk the rest (for tailing, rocks, hills, etc). It
will take about 4.5 hours to do the 33 miles of
trotting, plus another 6 hours to do the 17 miles of
walking (my horse not only trots slow, he walks pretty
slow, which I HATE). Throw in a half hour of tack
tinkering, easy boot fixing, watering, pee breaks, etc
etc, and BOOM we're at an 11 hour 50. Pretty darn
close to cutoff....

Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride (and try not to fall off)
