Re: [RC] WEG distance - should it change? - Truman Prevatt

Several years ago when there were not three day rides in the SE, they BSF RM tried the format of a three day ride for a couple of years and dropped it because there was little interest in the third day - not enough to warrant the ware and tear on the workers, expense of the vets, etc. About three years ago we started to see a growth of 3 day rides. Last year the BSF RM added a third day and it was extremely popular. All our multiday rides seem to be popular and we have quite a several. I do expect it will, however, have some long range impact on our 100's. That does, however, remain to be seen.

Why it didn't work 5 or 6 years ago but it works now - as you say go figure.

On the other hand, our 75 has always had more riders than the 100 and drew THREE TIMES as many riders last year as the 100. Go figure....

There have been a lot of RM's that have offered a 75 one year but didn't continue with it since it didn't pan out. When I looked at the distribution of distances - the 75 to 95 mile distance was not only flat over the last 10 years but if you ignore 2 day 100's it is the smallest category in riders.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;-)
