[RC] cost of horse living - Juli Bechard

Here in North Florida, it’s not TOO bad.

$100 per month for a good quality feed and grass hay ($1200 per year per horse)

$20 per horse every 5-6 weeks for a foot trim.  $60-$80 if shod. ($200-600 per year, per horse)

$10 every three months for wormer ($40 per year per horse)

$100 for fall shots (EWT, Rhino Flu, West Nile)  ($100 per horse)

$150-200 for spring shots and teeth float (EWT, Rhino Flu, West Nile, Rabies, Coggins) ($150-200 per horse)

$25 every three months or so for De-Sanding ($100 per horse per year)

Then, assume another $50-$100 a month for incidentals.  That comes up to a total of $1840-$2340 per year for the basics.  That doesn’t include the tack or competitions, etc.

Ouch.  Perhaps I shouldn’t have added that up….

Alpine (who is getting a masseuse and a chiropractor of his own to try and find the source of the mystery lameness.  That’s extra)
