Re: [RC] re: training miles needed/speed - Truman Prevatt

Of course, there are no hard rules, but I have NEVER conditioned a horse 50 miles per week and have certainly never conditioned at a faster speed than a ride.
Even when doing 100's the max I conditioned was about 30 to 35 miles a week - which included a 15 to 25 mile ride on the weekend. However, the rule of thumb in any sport is to train harder than you play so you will not become fatigued so instead of miles I used a lot of intervals of sprints during training. The week prior to a ride I'd back way off and the week after a ride I'd back way off.

Worked for me.
