[RC] NOT LD or 50 - LD AND 50 and Novice - Diane Trefethen

LD Wars. These snipe fests are a total waste of time especially since both sides aren't even arguing against each other. They are just trying to see who can yell the loudest and who can get in the last word and who comes off looking like the one who is Right! Let's just cut to the chase.

Why don't those who have been trying to stop the Limited Distance venue from having the same trappings as the longer rides just throw in the towel. TOTALLY!

Change the title in the Rule Book from "Endurance Rules" to "AERC Rules"

Re-write Rule 1 to state, "Endurance Rides must be at least 50 miles in length per day, up to a maximum distance of 150 miles in three days. Limited Distance Rides must be at least 25 miles but not exceed 35 miles in length.

Change Rule 3.1 to state, "Equines entered in a Endurance Ride must be at least 60 months old at the time of the ride. Equines entered in a Limited Distance Ride must be at least 48 months old at the time of the ride."

Then kill ALL the rules that start with "L". Kill the pulse down to finish. That's just a snide way of saying if we let you LD riders race like the big boys, you'll run your horses into the ground. Stop requiring LDs to be sanctioned ONLY with a longer ride. There's no requirement that all 50s be run in conjunction with a 100. Requiring LDs to be attached to a longer ride is another way of saying LDs are inferior... they can't stand on their own.

RUN ALL LIMITED DISTANCE RIDES ON EXACTLY THE SAME TERMS AS THE LONGER RIDES.

In addition to granting LDs full equality and the elevation of Limited Distance to COMPLETELY equal footing with the longer rides, create a new venue - Novice Rides. Draw up a set of "N" rules specifically aimed at young horses and new riders.

This way the supporters of LD as a venue in its own right would get FULL equality with the long rides. No more kvetching about being inferior. If problems crop up in the future, address them then instead of second guessing the capabilities of LD riders today.

The anti-LD-BC crowd would get their Novice venue for newcomers, a safe place with stringent rules to protect horses of any age from inexperienced riders.

Everyone wins. And the best part, we can get on with making the WHOLE sport better instead of wasting our energy on this stupid bickering.
