That's the thing. Object permanence is one of Piaget's developmental stages and something that most kids get by 2 or so....although I swear many men never really seem to get it. If they can't find the mayonnaise at the front of the fridge, then it doesn't exist and they open another jar rather than search for something that they don't believe exists.
