There is really nothing to the scanner. If there was a market - they 
cost significantly less. The technology is actually old. The new 
generation of RFID chips are a lot more capable. They can infact store 
and spit out a very large amount of data.

The current generation has been used in ID badges for access for years. 
Scan  your badge, punch in your PIN the door opens. It also records the 
who comes and goes and who is in the facility at any time.
