Re: [RC] Foundation QH calculations - Sky RanchYou may have missed the point of what I was saying, Robert. You said you "prefer the original conformation and abilities of the early QHs and thus, the foundation blood with no recent outcrosses. That is how to preserve those characteristics." Here's the problem -- you can not continue to inbreed, inbreed and inbreed, and expect to retain the good qualities - of any living organism, animal or plant. Selective breeding is necessary, certainly including outcrossing, to bring in new genes, and breeding for type - whether it was for racing, working cows, endurance, etc. What I've seen and read regarding the folks who promote the "foundation" quarter horse is -- as long as it avoids TB lines, and includes the horses "we" want, it's a foundation QH. I see a lot of problems there. Carla Richardson Colorado =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
