Re: [RC] QUARTER HORSE PEOPLE - HELP! - Robert RMy wife and I have foundation QHs (an 87% and a 95+% through Poco Bueno lines) and I'd just like to say, you all are the first group of mostly non-QH folks I've ever seen get it right. To repeat what a couple other folks have already said, quarter horses, foundation or otherwise, can do dressage and it is a good sport for any breed to learn how to carry themselves better and to improve communication between the rider and horse. HOWEVER, if you want to get to higher levels of dressage, it could certainly happen with a quarter horse but you will greatly improve your odds by going with a more traditional dressage breed. Of the two we have, one is built like a tank, is fast as a whip and has a near perfect work ethic but she is anything but limber and supple. I use her as a cow horse and my wife shows her in WP. Her daughter is our other one and she would make a very nice English or dressage horse except she is a shrimp and bigger horses "look" better when doing dressage (they appear slower and more fluid which is the exact reason why smaller horses do better at reining--they look faster and more snappy). She is also learning to be a WP horse and actually is better than her mother but still has a lot more to learn. My personal opinion is that I wouldn't want a QH that isn't foundation bred because when I want a QH, the reason I want it is for QH kind of activities but I also realize that I am awfully, awfully biased.
