RE: [RC] Arabian Definitions - heidi

John, I agree that there has to be a quality vs quanity comparison.  And I only have those sorts of numbers for my own program.  I've been trying to avoid sounding like a commercial.  The important numbers to me are the percentages of foals that actually make it into the sport over the life of the entire program (which in this country is affected much more by the fact that we don't have the sort of internal programs where the breeding farm has control over subsequent careers, as do the monied breeders in other parts of the world) and then the quality of the careers of those that do make it into the sport.

I provided some raw numbers for you for just one of our stallions.  I've got the raw data here for my own program, but do need to update it to crank out numbers for you.  I'll try to do that in the next few days.

Question:  Since you have all those nice international connections, if I contact you privately for some ride records from countries like Argentina and France, is there a chance you could lay hands on them?  I've been trying to track offspring of another stallion, and some are in Argentina...

Heidi

Thanks for the numbers (but I was really looking for something more useful - (#foals/year) and(#5yr endurance careers  started/yr) - a quantity metric and a quality metric. You gave numbers only in quantity (w/o stating over what time-frame - Hyannis bred 425 horse over 20 years? And Hyannis and Lois Russel are not in the game any more, so Van Guilders, Canyonside, Belesemo and Sagehill. 4 significant programs which might be looked at more closely.

>> *Hyannis bred 425 horses.
>> VanGilders have bred 285.
>> *Lois Russell bred 147.
>> Canyonside has bred 102.
>> Belesemo has bred 89.
>> Sagehill has bred 80
