[RC] installing a Tie Rite - Nancy

Help! I have a '01, 2 horse, slant load, aluminum skinned Morgan Built
trailer. A trim piece runs in the middle (top to bottom) the entire length
(front to back) of the trailer were the pained aluminum meets the unpainted
aluminum. I want to install Tie Rites, a overhead tie system. The issue is
the Tie Rite has a long wide piece of metal that stabilizes the system. It
runs top to bottom and crosses the trim piece. My question is can I cut out
the piece of the trim to allow the Tie Rite to sit flat on the side of the
trailer? I do not want to cause a structural problem by removing a piece of
the trim. I suspect I would need to seal the area well to avoid leaks.
Thank you for your help!
