[RC] sore butt - Amy

Have a question about my horse who's REALLY sore on his hind end right now.
Just wondering if anyone has gone through this before.

I had the vet out today for my 18yr old horse,
Brass. He is extremely sore right above his tail on his hindend and he has
loss of tail tone. His hind end is definitely weak and he is constantly
kicking and stomping his hind legs like they do for flys, I think it's
either an uncomfortable thing or he's doing it because he cannot swish his
tail anymore. He has a slight fever too. Vet isn't sure what is going on,
he doesn't have the classic symptoms of any diseases and he's had
vaccinations....she did a steroid and bute shot. She said it more reminds
her of a horse who is having complications from tail blocking. When you run
your hands down his back and onto his butt right above his tail, he tucks
his butt way under, he even does it a little when I spray him with fly spray
mist as if that even hurts. And he looks swollen right above the tail too.
I can just pick his tail up freely, it seems like he may still have a little
control of it, but not much. I'm going to bute this whole weekend and the
vet is running bloodwork too. He's rubbed most of his tail off :(. But
he's eating and acting pretty normal otherwise. Just wondering if anyone
has heard of anything like this. Thanks for any ideas.

Amy
