Aw, Rob.  Sorry about all your hornet stings.  Sounds like you are not 
allergic, fortunately.

When I had nests of yellow jackets in the ground in my yard, my "good 
old boy" friends would come over in the evening, dump a couple gallons 
of gasoline down the hole, light a match, and run like crazy.  Be sure 
to do this in the evening when the hornets are not out buzzing around.

It may not be the safest and most effective way, but it DOES make a 
pretty bonfire in the yard for a while!  : )  I was always sure to watch 
from INSIDE the house...
