Re: [RC] Junior points - Diane Trefethen

Thank you for clarifying this issue, Mike. So the Junior doesn't lose points accumulated - s(he) just can't accumulate any more as a Junior.

Still, that is not what the Rule Books demands. Nor does it make any sense that a person who rides as a Junior, with sponsor, be considered a Senior. A Senior is responsible for staying on trail. A Junior is responsible for staying with the sponsor. A Senior may complete a ride in the fastest time possible (and thereby accumulate the maximum number of points for his/her division). A Junior must ride no faster than the sponsor. If a Senior enters incorrect info on his membership application, he can correct it. If a Junior requests the right to ride as a Senior before really ready to take on that responsibility, he can't correct his mistake.

Here's what actually happens:

If a Junior requests a letter to ride as an unsponsored rider in the middle of the ride year - their points after that request will all be in the senior division. They will have part of their points in Junior which will not change and the ones which are senior after that point.

Once the junior has made the request to ride unsponsored and ridden that way - they can not accumulate any more junior points even if they wish to revert to junior status riding with a sponsor.
