[RC] Genesee Rides (NE) -- hot, hot, hot! - ristree

Cia and Alex Reis hosted, and Samantha Lewis managed, and what a wonderfully run ride despite Mother Nature blessing us (not!) with torrential rains on Thursday along with brutal heat and humidity throughout the weekend.

A tough course combined with the unforgiving weather meant for a fairly high attrition rate on Saturday, and plenty of horse/rider teams who typically are middle-of-the-packers at least finding themselves over time in both the LD (self included) and the 50.

Sunday gave some minimal relief, but management swapped the order of the loops, which may also have helped, and a better completion rate the second day.

Am having heat-induced memory failure about the winner/BC for Saturday's 50, but on Sunday Pam Karner on Piper finished first and got BC as well.  First Arabian in the AHA Ride was Darryl Downs (also BC) and my husband, Richard, and his marvelous Morab picked up first to finish and BC in the Half Arabian division.

Management took great care of the staff and help and provided plenty of water for horses and riders.  It would be impossible to count the bags of ice used collectively to get the horses through, but we started with 10 bags on Sunday a.m., got several more from someone who elected to opt out, and went through every last cube by the finish.  Have never seen so many panting horses in my life!

Beautiful place, gorgeous views on the trail, and hospitality that was second-to-none.  Two hearty thumbs up for this one!
