I have taken up way too much screen time expressing my opinions on this matter. I would be genuinely be interested in what parameters many of you out there feel are important, how you would rank them in order of importance, and why. I think I'll just sit back now and get ready to learn. Although I have a bit of experience at this sport, I can't begin to quantify all of the parameters that go into a successful horse/rider team, let alone rank them. I do know without a doubt that weight carried is only one such parameter, and is far from being the most important one. Which is why I favor the approach, for our sport, of each rider choosing and training his teammate (his horse) to create the best horse/rider team they can be, maximizing their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses -- then we compete all together, like the "unlimited" classes in auto racing (also known as "run what you brung"). And one more time (although I fear it will not be the last), to those who recently posted yet again, ad naseum, to prove that weight "does make a difference": WE KNOW ALREADY. The question is how MUCH of a difference, compared to all of the OTHER factors in success or lack of it in our sport, and how we deal with it. And we have many years of experience and statistics that clearly show: not much (at least on tough trails). -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.chiprider.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
