RE: [RC] [RC] The Horse's Perogative (was: Truman, BH, Colic) - ll cole

I stand corrected. I guess its not as unusual as I had believed. We have yet to see it here, but then maybe our's are a little on the laidback and lazy side!!

Let me introduce you to my mare Guinevere. I boarded her at a local barn for
several months, and occasionally before my lesson I'd bring her up out of
the pasture and let her relax a bit in the indoor arena.

One day someone left a single jump up in the center of the arena. Imagine my
surprise when she started repeatedly free jumping it -- and having a blast.

I didn't even know she could jump. This is a short, stocky draft cross that
looks too heavy to jump a puddle, and I know for certain she was never
trained to jump. But she was having a blast. From that point on, I made sure
to put up a jump if I were going to leave her in the arena -- and she
cantered around and free-jumped every time.

Not saying she's the norm, mind you, but apparently it does happen.
