Re: [RC] Truman, BH, colics - Nikki McCormack

I may be putting my head on a chopping block here, but goodness. Do y'all want to just burn Truman at the stake or what?

I really don't believe for a minute that he felt it would be better for the child to have died then for the horse to have died. Any death is a tragedy. What I got from his post was a passionate, if perhaps badly stated, statement about our personal responsibility to these animals.

Whenever we bring a living creature into our lives that does not have a choice, be it a cat or a human infant, we have a responsibility to do the best by them that we can. In the case of a horse, it is much like a child. We ask very much from them and when we ask something of them, we need to keep in mind that the length and quality of their lives is in our hands.

To keep it endurance related, I hope to do my first 100 by the end of next year. However, if my Arab proves not to be up to 100s, then I won't do 100s. Our relationship is such that he will do pretty much anything I ask of him, which tells me he trusts in me. As such, it is my responsibility to know him well enough that I do not push him past his abilities.

Nikki (and Cody "Sure, if you say it is safe, it must be.")
