Truman, the "inalienable right" to speak out does not include the "right" to slander others and do them damage.  I agree with Diane--you crossed the line.  You made comments about another sport and a rider of a horse in that sport without knowing the circumstances or the details.  Your remarks were derogatory.  With rights go responsibilities--and one of the responsibilities of free speech is that you do not infringe on the rights of others.

We have the luxury of living in a society that where not only is the
ability to speak our opinions an inalienable right - it is a
responsibility. It is what makes our society work. Differences of
opinions mix to form a social consensus which form our moral and legal
values of what we find acceptable as a society. What is acceptable
changes over time as we hopefully become more "civilized."
