Re: [RC] Truman, BH, colics - Truman Prevatt

Hi Truman,

Since you are normally such an even, fair-minded poster to Ridecamp, I know I must not be understanding your post correctly.

Diane, you are correct. I misread the initial post. It was worse than I first read. I read it as the rider died of a broken neck - it seems that the horse had a broken neck. The rider didn't pay the price - the horse did just to stroke the their ego. It is indeed sad. A horse with no say ends up dead because a rider whats to make the jump. Maybe it's not fair to lay it on the rider but it's not fair for the horse to be dead. Is the eventing organization investigating this incident?

Accidents happen which are no fault of the anyone. I sure recognize that and they can happen to any of us. But there is a line - maybe a fine line but a line none the same - where a horse is put at undue risk because of the rider's ego. That can come from running too fast, too many miles or got to show my horse is tough and do this "tough ride." Quite frankly your horse doesn't care how fast he ran, how far he went or how tough the ride was nor does he care if anybody else cares. The AERC seems to have the checks in place to address that. Maybe I am giving the AERC too much credit (especially after reading the tap dance in EN today over the drug violation that went unpunished) maybe its the collective conscience that Steph gave us in Ridecamp many moons ago. I don't know but we usually "self right" on these things.

Truman
