Re: [RC] [Patty] The Wonders of going Non-Barefoot//Tevis - Patricia Israelson

Title: Re: [Patty] ??The Wonders of going Non-Barefoot//Tevis
Hi Beverley,
I waited 42 years to get my first horse, which was when I turned 50.  I started doing endurance about six years ago, and my granddaughter Jordan (who is 9 years old) started riding endurance with me 3 years ago.  I have always dreamed of doing the Tevis ride and collecting that buckle.  I have not yet done a 100 mile ride but hope to in the near future....certainly before Tevis!!!  I have completed a 50 and plan to do another one with Jordan (her first) in September. I hope a can find a mentor to help me pace myself thru the Tevis ride when the time comes.

Patty ? I?m intrigued w/ your goal of doing Tevis when you?re (when I?m!) 60, which I will be in 3 yrs + 1 month.
Have you done other 100s? How long have you been doing endurance?

Beverley

I'm with you Dr. Q.  I've lurked on the list and read all the pros and cons about going barefoot.  Ultimately, the decision is mine as to what would be best for my endurance horses; and I choose to use shoes and a very good farrier.  I hope to do Tevis next year, when I turn 60, and my horse will have shoes on, and so will I.
Patty I, may I join you with a cup of tea?
