That wet sponge will be the least of your problems when you go to a "rain ride".
 
I had just bought my new OF....paid  $$$$  for it, took it to the first ride, and guess what...Yep, It rained.
 
Just clean it good when you get home, oil it, and put some mink oil on it.  That mink oil will kinda seal it off to wetness.
