[RC] English saddle questions..... - Suzanne Boyd

I decided to go english on my ride today, as I need to use my endurance saddle for a different horse,,,and want each horse(3) to have their own tack.(I hate adjusting tack!!) Anyway, the saddle I used today on my mare Ruby is an Antill event saddle. It fit her really well, even better than the endurance saddle. I really noticed it when traveling downhill, as she was very forward. *She* seemed completely happy with this saddle, but I had some issues. I rode trail english(either AP or dressage) for over a decade, but have been riding an endurance saddle for a few years. So I expected to have some adjustments. I found that (a) my equitation has gone to h**l in a handbasket (b) I seem to have some weird problem with keeping my right heel down(crap, the dreaded "tippy-toe" leg!)and (c) I found myself trying to "scooch" up most of the ride. By the end of the ride(about 12 miles), my seat was much better, but I was wondering..... do I need a bigger seat? Is that why I'm always "scooching" Would I be better off in a dressage saddle? I noticed that I really wanted to keep my leg long and straight, which kept me away from the leather on this saddle. I plan to re-try this saddle this weekend, but with a sheepskin seatsaver and endurance stirrups. (no, I'm not spoiled!!) Any thoughts on riding in an event-type saddle, or any english saddle?

Thanks all,
Suzanne
