[RC] colic and endurance (was mustangs in endurance) ?? - Ed Kilpatrick

when my gorgeous george died, i first thought it was colic, but later, after seeing very similar symptoms in a friend's horse which died from eating grain that contained toxic weed seeds,(confirmed by tests at UF) i believe that gorgeous george's death was probably due to some type of toxic weed.
his death was certainly not related to his conditioning or endurance career.   he died last august, and his last endurance ride was the goethe challenge in december 2004.  he had been "on vacation" for several months, and was just ridden occasionally.  he was just loafing in the pasture when he became ill.  it is still kind of hard to talk about it.
and yes, angie, i definitely think his five years in the wild made him the horse that he was!   some people didnt think he could do tevis because he didnt train out there.  these folks didnt know he came from the diamond hills region in nevada.  ;-)

but anyway, back on topic, mustangs in endurance, heck yeah!  captain jack, the mustang i won in the BLM/AERC raffle, will make his debute, probably in the fall of 2007.  the fuzzy young colt is now a strapping 15.3 hands gelding, just as calm and easygoing as a horse could be.   i can hardly wait!             cowboy ed (or as jody and joni say, the mustang man!)
