[RC] Gaited endurance in UAE! - Sue Walz

I'm forwarding some interesting news from my Australian gaited endurance friend, Kevin Sayer. Apparently the arabs are buying his American Saddlebreds that he's been so successful on! The sheiks are getting into gaited endurance!!! Excuse the long line of letters. They're all relevant to the news! ~Sue Walz BTW, JT is Kobada's Jacq of Times, American Saddlebred

By the way I just had yet another phone call a few hours ago (from a buyer for overseas interest's) They are VERY interested in Canyonleigh Stargazer another Purebred American Saddlebred !! This is for Stables in Dubai UAE.. One reason I did let JT go was to HOPE that he kicked but over there and that would well and truelly put the Saddlebreds on the map. There is no reason why JT would not do well over there as he was a very Freaky horse he just gave everything without being asked he changed my world around with the horsey thing I used to be one eyed ARABIAN but that has now changed. Canyonleigh Stargazer has started were JT finished off (kicking Arabian butts) (apart from my own Arabians Ha!) I have just started another one of my horses he is 1/2 Arabian and 1/2 Standardbred but WHAT a horse just what out for the Name "Mountain Breeze Jack the Ripper" I have also just been told that some AMERICANS are coming down to good old OZ to purchase some American Saddlebreds to ship back to the States to start in ENDURANCE how about that one. Anyway have to go as Im at work (real work) Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I was under the impression that the arabs just bought the top Arabian
endurance horses. So now they are buying gaited horses, too? That's
interesting! If he kicks butt over there that will really put gaited
endurance on the map! Keep me informed on how JT does over there! Do you
mind if I share this on the Gaited endurance list?

~Sue

Hi there
Unfortunatly I wont be riding JT as Shiek Mohamid Rashid Al Maktoum bought
him so he shall have a little Arab Jockey on him. I wish I wa going to the
Quilty but I have to work I probably could have got there but it would have
been on a very tight schedule and it wouldnt be fair on the horse...At this
stage I yet again plan to ride Shahzada (Im a glutten for punishment)
probably on the Saddlebred and then I plan to do the State Championship 100
miler on him, hopefully in around 12-14 hours I shall just have to wait and
see. I dont want to push him tooooooo hard as he has only been going since
Oct/Nov last year so he still a baby at the sport anyway have to fly
Kind Regards
Kevin

Here is the New American Saddlebred "Canyonleigh Stargazer" He has taken the place of Kobada's Jacq of Times" (JT) as JT is now in Quarentine before his journey to Dubai (UAE) Regards Kevin

Hi Cynthia,

Just a quick e-mail to give you an update.

We have just returned home from the 2006 Kundabung endurance ride near
Kempsey on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. We went there to support
Kevin Sayer competing on Canyonleigh Stargazer in the 80km (50 mile) main
ride, split up into 2x40km legs.(approx. the 1st leg is longer than the
2nd) (I will try and not carry on too much as I will let Kevin elaborate
and tell you the full story himself).

Kevin was only going to "notch up" some more kilometres on Stargazer and
"chalk up" another successful ride in his yellow book (endurance horse
book). The plan was to just amble around taking it easy to prevent any
injuries and successfully get through the vetting procedure easily so as to
keep intact Stargazers unblemished vetting record (6 out of 6 final vet
checks).

The Kundabung circuit is a reasonably challenging one with a 12 km up hill
climb on the first leg. Due to the lack of any substantial rain for many
months now the course was very stoney, hard compacted and punishing on the
horses feet. (The majority who vetted out did so being lame)

Kevin and Stargazer (The dynamic duo) came in from the 2nd leg vetting
through managing to take out 1st position in the heavyweight division, 3rd
position overall and fittest horse in the heavy weight division. Kevin
came across the finish line hand in hand with a rival heavy weight entrant
on an Arab for a " tied first positioning". (just shows you the
camaraderie and selflessness of this discipline over here) but
unfortunately the other fellow vetted out on heart rate 77 b/pm compared to
Stargazers 47 b/pm.

In their heavy weight division, "the dynamic duo" landed at base camp over
2 hours ahead of the next successful heavy weight entry (Kevin is a master
of the endurance circuit and generally very much respected by all who
attend these events).

We had a fantastic time camping out for the first time with our 2yo little
boy, but hopefully the next ride we attend will be with one of our own
horses in competition as well but only on a 40km training ride to start.

I have attached some photos for you. If you would like them in better
(print) resolution let me know and I will send them through to you. the
first 3 are of the ride entry vetting procedure. The next 1 is of strapping
Stargazer down after the 2nd leg. The next 3 are of the final vetting
procedure, the next one is of Kevin mounted for the fittest horse vetting
(heavy weight), and the last two are of Kevin and Stargazer displaying
their just deserts.

Regards
Lesley
