Re: [RC] Keith on Foxtrotter - Bruce Weary DC

Keith--
You may have heard of a rider in our sport named Julie Suhr. She is a very successful rider and an inspiration to anyone who meets her or reads her book. She tells me that her first attempt at the Tevis was a disaster--after only 36 miles, her horse was lame and wouldn't recover, Julie's legs were chafed and bleeding from her brand new blue jeans, and she was in tears. She went on to a successful, world renowned career and has done it all with grace.
It sounds to me like your first foray into endurance riding was far more successful than Julie's. If that is any indication, you may have a great career ahead of you in this sport, should you so desire. I think you are victim of good intentions from your fellow riders, many of whom presume that any entry level rider is a potential accident waiting to happen. Apparently you aren't one of them. In fact, due to your experience with endurance training for the Iron Man, you may be even better prepared than those of us who are simply horesemen.
Even though I am terrible at following this sentiment, I think it is appropriate for all: "Beware of giving unsolicited advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it."
Welcome aboard, Keith. Bruce Weary aka Dr Quackenbush
