[RC] Tent Camping & Safety - cynthia hamberg

Hello Everybody:
As a manager for the AERC, and someone who believes in
"safety first," I thought I would comment on tents at ride
camps. Think about it: You're all snug in your sleeping bag,
in your ultra-lite tent, and somebody's super-fit endurance horse
is loose in camp...We all know that horses are loose at times--especially at
night,
despite our best efforts to secure them. In a tent, youu are literally
a HUGE target for that horse to spook at, and step through your tent,
and literally on you! --Having been in the hospital from a horse
kick, resulting in a severely lacerated liver (in my early twenties), I
wouldn't wish that on anybody! Be smart: Sleep in a LQ trailer,
a motor home, a nearby hotel/motel, or even in your truck. But, save
the tents for the backpackers, or those without our equine friends...
Take Care,
Cindy Hamberg (PS)
