Re: [RC] Rapid Pulse Recovery/Real Data - Truman Prevatt

Bob, you hit the nail square on the head. There are a few things I think one can say. First, first check recoveries have so many variables to pretty much be worthless as a criteria. Second, the recovery time is probably more indicative of what the the horse did the last 5 miles than anything else. Third, nothing is absolute. All recovery times at any given check need to be taken in context of the ensemble of all the horses at that check.

If anything the MMS proposal cannot be implemented as a hard fixed number. It might be implemented as yet another criteria. That along with all the other criteria might allow an unanimity of the vets at a check (with more than one required to be present) to change the status of a horse to completion only. However, as you point out the merit of recovery time as a indicator needs to be investigated.

Questions to follow.

No, The rapid pulse recovery is not the simple answer.

The big question is why did one horse with a "poor recovery"
finish fourth and in good condition, while a horse with
"excellent recoveries" was eliminated for a metabolic
condition?

The research is needed, but it must be carefully developed
to furnish a reliable conclusion. And to develop a very
solid reliable conclusion, definitive questions must be
postulated that will lead to such a conclusion.

Now, to start things off correctly, how about a few well
thought out questions that will lead in the proper
direction.
