[RC] Riding Alone - WRSINOSKY

Dr. Q:

So THAT's why you disappeared at Color Country.  You didn't want me back there.  Just kidding, Doctor Q.  I went thru all sorts of gyrations after you guys passed me to pull knucklehead up and wait 'til you were a distance away.

I hate people following me, especially when they use my horse as their brakes because they have no control over their own animal.  And Doimas is bad enough about focusing without someone purposely riding on his heels. When a rider lags behind us, he is constantly looking over his shoulder and misstepping.

In all honesty, there have been times when I've joined up with people along the trail, but I try not to be a pest and don't stay with them for very long.  It is a trial sometimes to get Doimas to leave his newfound friends, which is why I stay with them as long as I do, but eventually I "convince" him we need to go on and once we're away from them, he's fine.

Perhaps you could just quit being such a nice guy and tell the person or persons that you really would prefer to be alone (by yourself or with your wife). Or, tell them your horse doesn't like them back there. It's not like it's being rude. I think some people get the impression endurance riders "enjoy" a group and assume it is fine for them to join up.
