[RC] paralyzed foal - Christina Schiro

When I talked to Dr. Weekley' s office at 2 pm Thursday, the foal had left for Auburn University, AL an hour before. I believe the University is 4 or so hours ago. Before he left, Rhonda in the vet office, who I spoke too, said the foal was perky but very frustrated. She didn't go into details as to was she meant exactly by that as the office was very busy and we had a lot to talk about. Although his prognosis is iffy and there is the chance he might not make it through the surgury, Auburn vets believe they can really help the foal.

I made the orginal post asking for donations to be sent to Dr. Weekley's office after a request from two of my fellow FFAHA members. Of of those peopel works for Dr. Weekley and is seeing exactly what is going on with the foal. Under my name in the original email I had put that I am a member of the Five Flags Arabian Horse Association and am (will be "was") a member of the Panhandle Equine Rescue. I must clarify that my email was not representative of those clubs officicially and was not acting for the group as a whole. If fact, I received a very nasty phone call this afternoon from one of the investigators with the Panhandle Equine Rescue that they were extremely disturbed by my emails and said I am impeding the investigation by asking for donations to be made for the foal and that they do no want any donations made to Dr Weekley for the horse. It will affect the whole restitution aspect and how much the State of Florida reimburses Dr. Weekly and Auburn. Hmm, this doesn't make sense. On the one hand we can try and save the animals now while they have the best chance. OR we can wait until the killer is found (weeks, months, never), goes to court, and then finally pays the vets the thousands of dollards that they have spent. So much for trying to do the right thing. Sometimes it just blows up in your face. It's midnight, and My head is still reeling from my conversation. I got this phone call right before I walked into the Kenny Chesney concert tonight. It was supposed to be a fun night. Needless to say a lot of people say me crying after the earful I received and kept thinking all through the night about this whole situation. All I know is that because of the emails I sent, that foal is at Auburn with some of the best vets in the region trying to save his life.
