Re: [RC] Calories Burned Riding: Calculate + Measure Metabolism - rides2far

.This was very enlightening (&&& depressing
:-( ) for this 40 something woman. Boy, I cannot eat much., I am 5'10",
in
my forties, ride 3-5x a week for 1-3 hours, physical therapy exercise
for 1 hr 3x a week, & I could only eat 1500 calories/24 hrs to keep the
wgt I
am.>

Yep, the charts say I should lose at 1200 calories, but that's really
maintenance for me. People consider 4-oz. a serving of meat. I measure
out 2-oz. To lose weight I have to stay below 1200 while getting really
active.

Actually, I find it pretty encouraging that "efficient, balanced riders
burn fewer calories". Heck, that means that when I do a 100 and don't
lose an ounce, I rode *very* balanced! :-)) The good news is, though I
may not be burning *that* many calories, I am far from the refrigerator.
If I pack what I *should* eat in my cantlebag, I don't have the option
of eating wrong *and* I'm getting exercise.

I pretty much *live* on a very balanced conservative diet...and I've
tried to stay active, walking, etc. during the last year or two when I
wasn't competing much and not really *riding* that much. (ground training
a new horse doesn't burn many calories) I got a new *broke* horse 6 weeks
ago and I've lost 6 pounds. Getting out there and staying on the horse
definately helps! :-))

P.S. Chattanooga didn't get hit as hard as we expected by the storms.
Husband works for the power company and couldn't believe he didn't get
called in. We had some hard rain, and lots of lightning. Just remember
one BIG clap of thunder because the dog jumped in bed with me. Too sloppy
to ride after a week of GORGEOUS weather while I was at work. :-P
