My first horse came with a case of pneumonia. The vet found it during the prepurchase, and taught me how to do penicillin injections, including drawing back after inserting the needle to make sure you hadn't hit a vein etc.


A few years later, I was giving a mare antibiotics for an infected cut. I stuck the 18 gauge needle in her butt and hit an artery. There was absolutely no question, the pulsing fountain would have worked for a Monty Python sketch!
