RE: [RC] Knee injury - Kristen A Fisher

I would totally agree with Dr Q's assessment. I had a similar thing happen
about 3 times over the course of a year; it would hurt like all hell broke
loose for about 2 mins, then just be sore for about a week even with ice and
elevation.

Finally the 4th time, the excruciating initial pain did not go away and I
was not able to walk on it [went to the ER]. LSS, it was a torn medial
meniscus [and probably collateral ligament damage to, for which there is
little treatment but rest]. I had to have surgery to repair the meniscus. I
do have individual health insurance and it still cost me a bundle. I did
read in the course of my research that you can live with this injury without
getting it repaired [used to be called a "trick knee"] but not sure I would
advise that. However, it took over a year from the first incident until the
one needing surgery so that may give you enough time to get on insurance. I
can give you $$ amounts on MRIs and stuff if you need them, I still have the
big fat file.

   Carla--
Your description is very suspicious of medial meniscus
damage and possibly medial collateral ligament
strain/tearing. Bite the bullet, see a good orthopedist,
likely get an MRI and go from there. It's much better to get
attention sooner than later. Ongoing inflammation in the
joint causes ongoing damage until it is arrested. Ice, light
activity, no exercise or riding (ARRGGH!) until you see the
doctor. Don't make me
come to your house and put you over my knee. Dr Q
