[RC] what do you take to a ride? - Carolyn Burgess

Add zip ties and duplicates of everything that you mentioned on the list (two bridles, coolers, saddle pads, blankets, etc.).  I always bring several extra pairs of reins and I carry a set in my cantle pack.  I've had several instances of busted reins on trail (I ride an idiot).  And plan for the entire range of weather (snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain, heat, humidity) and bring clothing for you and your horse for all of those scenarios.

I have a 3 H 10' LQ with a 3' mid tack that I fill to the gunnels for me and one horse.  I refer to it as my horses diaper bag.  Traveling with little children is far easier than taking one horse to an endurance ride.

I'm going to be doing my first 25 mile ride in a few weeks and was wondering what everybody considers must haves and maybe some not so must but still like to haves? Luckily the ride is only a 1/2 hour or so from the place I board so I can get something brought to me that I forget. Here is what I have so far:

riding gear (saddle, girth, breastcollar, sidepull and bit attachment, saddlepad, helmet, saddlebags, water bottles, hr monitor, gps)

blankets, buckets, first aid, easy boots, feed, beet pulp, hay, pro bi, electrolytes, sponges, grooming brushes, hoof pick, hay bag, cooler sheet, rump rug, camping gear, people food, my clothes, DUCT TAPE

Thats about where my brain goes numb, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Also what first aid supplies do you guys keep with you? Thanks again.
