[RC] To Kim Harrison-some horses were meant for the trail - tracey smith

Kim you said it all so clearly and true...some horses were meant for the trail.

You are so right...the true "abuse" would be in keeping a horse that loves going down the trail locked up or forcing them to do some other job.  I know we tried in vain last year to make Amira a playday horse for my stepdaughter.  Spent lots of time trying to teach her barrels and poles and work in an arena and she HATED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!! Now we do still do some arena work for schooling...but Amira made it quite plain and simple she is NOT a playday horse.  Yet when she's on the trail for endurance, CTR or just for fun...it's ears up and she's always curious about whats around the next corner.

I even talked about this with my very much "non-horsey" husband last night and even he agreed that was not abuse...he likened it to when he ran track and cross country in high school...injuries happen.  He did not feel it was abuse to ride a horse 50 miles and he also knows Anita and Tiny and how well taken care of that mare is.

Thanks for summing it all up so well...can't wait to you and Elyssa hit the trail for another 50...you really do have a very talented mare and I know y'all can do many more 50's or longer if you choose to.
