Re: [RC] Jl comment on "equipment" - k s swigart

It was not meant as an attack on others

Some people seem to be of the mistaken impression that my response about
defining reins as equipment to be some kind of an attack on John Lyons.
It was not. It was merely to point out that it is a mistake not to
recognize reins (or halters or round pens or whatever) as equipment.

Equipment, I might add, that can be used or abused, just like all kinds
of other equipment.

Reins attached to a snaffle bit, while one of the simplest forms of
communication between man and horse, is also one that can be extremely
abusive in the hands of somebody who does not know when to let go.

I merely wished to warn people not to be lulled into a false sense of
warm fuzzies just because they aren't using any "equipment" because,
after all, they are only using the reins.

Do NOT make this mistake. Reins are equipment too.

Equipment is not a dirty word.
