RE: [RC] [RC] How Long is Your Commute? - Christy Adame

My commute is ~ 60 miles each way (just to the other side of DFW airport). It takes anywhere from an hour to 1 1/2 hrs. I just left a job that was 20 miles closer, but the pay didn't justify the drive (or the difficult work environment). Now the drive is much further, but the $$ is much better!!

Our horses are on 5 acres right behind the house--About 4 years ago we bought the property & built a home. We refused to board when there is still so much land for sale in the surrounding Dallas area. Plus, the cost for stall board for 2 horses can cost as much as house payment!

My 2nd commute is to the trails. Around 25 to 45 miles, depending on which ones (R. Roberts or Lake Lavon). Or to Decatur, which is just around 2 hrs drive. About a year ago (after a VERY close call with a truck on the road) I quit riding on the roads by my house. The property around here is slowly getting more populated/"civilized."

Either way, I'm driving!! At least the horses are totally used to being trailered, tied, etc.. long before they ever get to an endurance ride.

Karen, I like your idea of books on tape/CD. Have you learned any foreign languages?

Cheers-
Christy

70 miles one way -- I commute into Washington, DC. Its totally worth it as I get to live in a fairly rural area, have my horses on my property, and am close to the interstate and shopping. To accommodate my riding addiction, I work nights -- 8:00pm-3:30am -- thus avoiding the nightmare DC traffic and allowing me to be able to ride in the afternoons.

Books on tape makes the drive zip by. Barring unforseen circumstances, it takes about an hour and a quarter to get to work.

Been working nights almost 20 years and making this 70-mile commute for 16 years.
