[RC] Death Valley Encounter - Peggy B-Smith

Got back from Death Valley Encounter yesterday, my camper is cleaned out (sorta), dirty clothes are in the washer and my horse, LP Dalite, after 200 miles, is out playing with her two buddies, happy and fit.
DVE was awesome! My hat is off to Jackie Bumgardner for being able to pull off this ride. The weather was beautiful for the first three days. The fourth day Jackie rerouted the trail and we turned back at Darwin because of a nasty weather front coming in. I have never ridden in wind that bad! Though, I did get a free dermabrasion courtesy of riding through the wind by the dry lake! We had a little rain back in ridecamp for the hold, but also got to see a beautiful rainbow over Death Valley's painted mountains.
This is a rocky, tough ride and I am so proud of my horse for making it through all four days in incredible shape. I should be in such shape!
The views were beautiful, the people great and friendly and how many of you got to spend your New Year's Eve in a Shell station? We had a great dinner and danced and listened to music - and my husband and I made it to midnight! I think it was the best New Year's I have had in many years!
I can't think of a better way to ring in the new AERC riding year, complete with 200 miles! Yahoo!
