[RC] Ankle Pain.. a few suggestions - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I have had horrible ankle pain in the past. Too many injuries
broken bones, it is all catching up!

A cutting horse trainer that is a dear friend of mine gave me a
few suggestions and wow, did they work for me.
First off, no matter if you ride western or english, ask
yourself are you curling your toes down when you ride. Sort of
like trying to clamp onto the stirrup? Are your toes pointing
up when you are riding? We are all taught the proper way to ride
is on the balls of our feet. However sometimes that doesn't work
for everyone in all situations. Try the following:

#1. Spread your toes "open" and keep your foot flat in your shoe
#2. Shove your foot more into the stirrup. Please be careful as
you can really get yourself in trouble by doing this!
3#. Find a shoe that supports your ankle. I ride in the Ariat
all terrains
#4. Try and keep as much sole of your shoe in contact with the
stirrup
#5. As you rise to post, sink you ankle deep down into the
stirrup, rise out of the saddle, then let all the shock come
down through your thigh, knee, calf, and the last is your ankle.
6#. When you are riding, look down at your feet. From you knee
down you should really see just your toes. If your feet are
sticking way out in front, then you are sitting as if in a chair
which will throw off all your centered riding. Going around in
a arena you won't notice, but go ride 50 and 100 and you sure
will

Good luck. I know I suffered great pain, now though not pain
free I can get through all the 50's and two 100's last year.
