Re: [RC] Horse trailers w/living quarters - Karen Sullivan

I am very happy with my Silverlite.  IT is an 18 ft box, so very small LQ; but was about only trailer I could find that small a LQ that had a furnace!  I wanted heat!  The trailer with an Ac/heat strip on top can only be used with a generator or hook up.  I have also looked at a lot of LQ trailers and Silverlite has the nicest cabinets (solid Oak), none of that vinyl.
I have burners, a small bathroom with toilet and shower, a fair amount of storage and counter space due to the design
(Roper 1), and small table.  No Dinetter, but step up to bed has water tank and cushion.  It's perfect for one person, a bit squeezed for 2, but perfectly adequate if you are wanting to keep trailer from getting too long. Mine is wired for microwave and Ac....

My horse area has 3h slant, with back tack. I  hate the back tack, not enough room.  My first stall will become a mid tack when my daugher leaves.....I got the trailer used, a great deal, so if I could change things might have put in escape door to become mid tack door; but what I will do is just walk in and swing open divider to access tack.....I already have bottom part of stud wall to weld in....

My trailer also has drop windows on horse side and tiny slidey bus windows on rump side.  I feel this has become standard with LQ trailers and I think a bad standard!!!  The windows, with screens, rubber trim, latches and glass are one more darn thing to break eventually and I don't think give enough ventillation.  I wish the trailer just plain had stock sides () could always put in plex for bad weather).

Again, however, I got it used, so had to take what I could get!

Subject: [RC] Horse trailers w/living quarters

Friends,  I am contemplating buying my first horse trailer with LQ, moving up from a two-horse, bumper pull.  I am told that the best re-sale value is a three-horse trailer.  I have looked at new Sundowners and Bisons, with dozens of options.

Can you share your opinions on what to buy, more specifically, which are the good quality trailers and ones that have good re-sale value?  What living quarter options would you recommend?  What didn?t you buy with your trailer that you wish you had?  What did you buy that you have found you could have lived without?

At this time I am participating in about one 50 mile endurance ride per month and traveling as far away as 8 to 10 hours.  I am carrying my horse, and sometimes one for a friend.

Your ideas are appreciated.
