Re: [RC] [RC] Branding - Barbara McCrary

Why not brand on the low shoulder like Hyannis Cattle Co. did, or on the hip or thigh? Not pretty, but it would do the job. HCC used a hot iron. I'd hate to do that to a horse. Their skin is so thin compared to cattle that it would be very easy to leave it on too long.

Mary,

I'm on a few horse related groups and some people have said there's
not only freezebranding which Amber suggested, but you can also get
the HOOVES branded.. which is much harder to hide. Apparently freeze
branding is common on areas that can be covered by saddles at auctions
etc, whereas branding on the hooves can't be easily covered, it's
apparently very visible.

Just another option. :)

I just got finished reading an article about stolen horses and how easy it
is to steal common colored horses. It suggested getting a brand on your
horse – especially if you keep your horses in a pasture. Does anyone know
where you can get this done?
