Re: [RC] re: ride times - Dot WigginsPlease notice I said "most rides". I do think multi-days are somewhat different species, and can use different formats. And trail logistics can be so different from ride to ride. We need the option, as ride managers, to make things fit. I, too, would hate to see a mandatory number of checks, or distance between checks. All that being said, I personally, like several checks on a 50. Hey, I need a break, even if the horse doesn't.<G> There used to be some rides, including 100s, with no timed holds at all, just stop and go vet checks. No way to "compete" if you wanted to take care of the horse. Hated that. --- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy Collins" <ccollins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, February 25, 2005 12:01 PM Subject: [RC] re: ride times And I am all in favor of at least 2 or more vet checks for most rides. Dot And I am in favor of the AERC never making hard and fast rules about the number/length of vet checks. One thing not discussed in this thread is that most multiday riders (not all, of course) are very experienced riders. If there are newer riders, the experienced ones at multidays, usually will take them under their wings. It's much more of a family atmosphere. These are riders who do not need the AERC or anyone else telling them how many vet checks to have, etc. I know that Dot was saying for "most" rides and I don't disagree, but I am truly scared of some arbitrary rule being imposed that will shut down a number of rides without cause.
