Magness Arabians started in Colorado with Bob and Betsy (Bob's first
wife) Magness. Betsy had a heart attack and died in an airport in Poland in
about 1984. They had gone to Poland on a horse buying trip. Bob married Sharon a
few years later. But Magness Arabians was in place long before Sharon came
along. Sharon Magness owns "Thunder," the recently retired Arabian used at
the Bronco football games. I think she owns the horse that took Thunder's place.
She still has several Arabians I believe. The original Magness ranch is
about a mile from where I live. I ride thru it on my way to National Forest. It
was mostly a cattle ranch and the retired horses were kept there. The
ranch in Longmont Colorado and the one in California were where the horses
were being raised. Magness' have 5 or 6 ranches in Colorado. They probably sold
the one in California because it was easier to keep everything in Colorado. The
only member of the family that is left is a son named Kim. I don't think he's
into the horses at all, but he hasn't sold off the Longmont ranch.
