She was VERY into the horses-- it's just that Bob was paying for them, 
using them as a tax write-off. When he died, the kids got the money and 
Sharon got the horses. She didn't have enough income to simply use them 
as a write-off and it was far too expensive to keep that kind of 
operation going. She was the one who got Bob interested in the horse in 
the first place.
