RE: [RC] [RC] Leap(yes sir) froging - Ranelle RubinGinger, One of the "trail training excercises" I do regularly whenever I am riding in an open area is to turn my horse into a rather large circle away from the rest of the horses with which I am riding. We do this at a walk., I purposely meander away from them, keeping them in sight and moving in the same general direction, sometimes meeting up with them at the next intersection. This teaches my horse to listen to me, despite his herd instinct telling him to keep with the herd. This obviously only works with open areas where you have a cooperative group. I have the good fortune of riding with a great group of ladies who are always looking for a "training op"... Ranelle What we truly and earnestly aspire to be, that in some sense we are. The mere aspiration, by changing the frame of mind, for the moment realizes itself. We do play leap frog, ie change position leading and following. He is fine at the walk. And more often than not he is OK at the trot...he just hates being "left behind". I will be round penning him again when I can (working on voice comands, transitions etc), and I do continuously work with him on the ground with manners etc. He is a good boy, great attitude. I guess I need to start turning him in circles quicker before the explosion...I know this is a young horse thing and will take time and patients. I think we will work as pairs going up and down hills to moderate his pace (with a more experienced horse who will not race). Like I mentioned in my first post, JJ will do what is asked of him if he is the leader. Thanks for any suggestions!
