Your reasoning is fine. There is no real need to go deeper for normal electrolyting. If you want, you could send your daughter to school with containers of the ingredients. She then could then weigh, on the school's gram scale, say 10 Tablespoons of each and then calculate grams/tablespoon. This would hold with a fair degree of accuracy until the average granule size of the salt or KCl changed. Since major manufacturers make stuff in large carefully controlled batches, it most likely won't change for the next 20 years
