Re: [RC] Tailgating - Don HustonHello Lani,Years ago I wanted to teach my horses to drink on command so every time I returned the horse to his pen I took him to the water tank and tried to pull his nose to the water, fat chance. So after awhile I started just gently yanking on the lead just enough to rattle his nose up and down a little. Whenever he dropped his head a little I would quit for some seconds then start again. Now all 3 horses will put their noses in the water on command and splash a bit if not thirsty or go ahead and drink. So now I have started using the little tugs or rattle the bit gently to make the horse slow to the next lower gear. It took awhile but I think the little tugs (we're talking a constant tug-tug-tug here) annoy the horse and when he changes something I quit (as in release the pressure) so he learns how to not get the tugs. It also works at trying to keep a bigger distance between horses. Instead of constantly pulling on his mouth I do the tugs until he stays back then quit then more tugs if he gets too close again. It works a lot of the time but not always right away. Some need more annoying than others :-D Good Luck and Merry Christmas.
